Israel closes Palestinian territories for Jewish holidays

Tel Aviv: The Israeli army announced that it will close all checkpoints and crossings linking the country with the West Bank during the upcoming Jewish holidays.

“Crossing will only be possible for exceptional humanitarian and medical cases,” the army said in a statement on Tuesday.

The new China News Agency (Xinhua) reported that the first closure will be imposed before the Jewish New Year.

The military said it will start in the afternoon of September 25 and raise midnight between September 27 and 28 “depending on the assessment of the situation.”

On October 9, another day-long lockdown will be imposed, before the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

After six days, another one-day closure will be imposed due to the same holiday.

This year’s move comes at a sensitive time due to the increasing number of clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians in the West Bank.
