Veteran politician Karan Singh said on Friday he supported the demand to declare a holiday on the birthday of his father, Maharaja Hari Singh, and asked the Utah government to “consider and accept the whole thing”.

“There has been a long-standing request from young people in Jammu for a holiday for the birthday of my father, Maharaja Hari Singh, which I strongly support,” he said in a statement. He said he conveyed his views to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, he said continued incitement and disruption of normal life is not desirable in the highly sensitive border region of Jammu.

Speaking about the contributions made by his father, Singh said he has taken many progressive measures, including building colleges and hospitals.
